Who is EcoPaxia Consulting?
EcoPaxia Consulting Limited is a research, monitoring and evaluation firm that helps development organisations turn data into decisions. The firm was established in 2017 and brings together a multidisciplinary team whose combined professional experience exceeds thirty years across Somalia, South Sudan and the wider East Africa region. We work with United Nations agencies, bilateral and European Union funded programmes, international and national non-governmental organisations, foundations, and government, providing evidence services that are technically rigorous, participatory and right-sized to each client's purpose.
Our core business is the design and delivery of baselines, evaluations, research studies, market and value chain assessments, and monitoring and learning systems. We help clients collect, analyse, visualise and ultimately use evidence in ways that improve programmes and strengthen accountability. The work is grounded in strong field execution, careful data management, and a culture of innovation that draws on current data collection and analytics tools.
The firm maintains its head office in Mogadishu, at City Tower on Maka Almukarama Road. This keeps us close to clients, partners and government counterparts based in the capital, while our field teams and enumerator roster give us genuine reach into rural and hard to access communities across the country.

Monitoring, evaluation and learning
Evaluation and learning are the firm's founding discipline. We design and conduct baseline, midline, endline and final evaluations; build and operationalise monitoring, evaluation and learning systems; develop results frameworks and theories of change; and facilitate reflection and learning processes. Designs apply the OECD Development Assistance Committee criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability, with gender responsiveness added where programmes carry explicit equity objectives.
Research and surveys
We carry out applied social, economic and population research using both quantitative and qualitative methods. This includes large household and facility surveys, situational and needs analyses, feasibility studies, policy and desk reviews, and most significant change and case study work. Quantitative analysis is handled in SPSS and Stata and qualitative analysis in Atlas.ti, with results presented through clear visuals and dashboards.
Peacebuilding and climate change
We support community-centred peacebuilding through mediation, dialogue facilitation, conflict analysis and the integration of women and youth as central actors in social cohesion. Alongside this we deliver climate risk and vulnerability assessments that combine downscaled climate projections with participatory field evidence and spatial analysis, producing hazard and risk maps and prioritised adaptation options that communities and local government can act on.
Third party monitoring
We provide independent verification for programmes operating in complex, insecure and hard to access environments. Our monitors work to structured checklists and digital data capture, reporting on delivery, quality and beneficiary experience so that donors and implementers have credible assurance grounded in evidence rather than self-reporting.
Training and capacity building
We design and deliver training that transfers skills to client and government staff so systems can be sustained after handover. Our approach blends adult learning principles with participatory methods, tailoring content to the organisation rather than delivering a standard curriculum, and covers public sector, private sector and humanitarian audiences.

Mohamud Hassan Abdi
Co-Founder | Peacebuilding, Climate Security & Environmental Governance Consultant
Mohamud Hassan Abdi is a peacebuilding and environmental governance specialist with over 10 years of experience managing programmes in fragile and conflict-affected settings across Somalia. As Co-Founder of EcoPaxia Consulting, he provides expertise in peacebuilding, climate security, governance, organizational development, and community resilience. He currently serves as a Project Manager with the Berghof Foundation Somalia Programme, leading donor-funded initiatives on environmental peacebuilding, social cohesion, participatory research, and institutional capacity strengthening. His work has involved close collaboration with government institutions, civil society organizations, international partners, and local communities to deliver sustainable, locally led solutions. Mohamud holds a Master of Arts in Environment, Peace and Development from the University for Peace (UPEACE). He is passionate about advancing evidence-based approaches that strengthen peace, environmental resilience, and inclusive development across Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

Research Director
Abdihamid is an accomplished Research Director at EcoPaxia Consulting, bringing over 15 years of extensive experience in humanitarian aid, project management, and economic security. His career has been marked by a profound commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations across Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Libya, and Sudan.
Omar Hagi Ibrahim
Research Manager
Omar is the Research Manager at Ecopaxia Consulting. He oversees Ecopaxia’s industrial development projects in Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, and Ethiopia. He also supports foundations, development agencies, and governments in strategic planning, program design, and evaluation. ensuring effective engagement with government representatives and effective coordination with program partners. He ensures the effective integration of the work undertaken by program staff, including program management, delivery, coordination, human resources, consultants, monitoring, and evaluation.Omar provides technical support to the project managers through hands-on guidance, development, and implementation. Omar also guides and oversees the alignment of the budget to expected results and reviews and approves annual budgets. Omar was a Project Manager, Project officer, national consultant, regional coordinator, survery supervisor, and senior researcher across South-Central Somalia for national and international NGOs, including UNOPS, Equal Access, ACTED, Altai Consulting, Tusmo Research & Consulting, Ogal Consulting, and the Somali Association for Rehabilitation and Development (SARD). He supervised major assessments for a wide variety of humanitarian and development programs. He has also developed an extensive network of experienced professional researchers that reaches out to each Somali region. Omar holds a MBA (Project Management) from Kenyatta University.

Digital data collection runs on KoboToolbox, with built-in validation, geolocation and supervisor review. Quantitative analysis is handled in SPSS and Stata, qualitative analysis in Atlas.ti, and spatial analysis and mapping in QGIS, with visualisation and dashboards produced in Power BI. Designs apply recognised frameworks appropriate to the assignment, including the OECD Development Assistance Committee evaluation criteria and sector-specific frameworks such as the equitable access lens used in WASH studies.
Ethics, Inclusion and Data Protection
Ethics, gender and inclusion, and data protection are treated as standing requirements rather than optional extras. We collect informed consent, disaggregate data by sex and other relevant characteristics, create women-only data collection spaces where the subject calls for them, store data securely, and document procedures so that the evidence is defensible and audit ready. We maintain a strict standard of factual integrity, presenting only findings the data supports and citing sources throughout.
